Gabberish #11: The Responsibility Issue

There’s never been a better time to consider our responsibilities to the environment and society, and today the eleventh issue of Gabberish does just that. The Responsibility issue features an interview with the creative leader of the Palau Pledge, Seamus Higgins (pictured). Now VP and CCO at R/GA APAC, he contemplates the impact of the pledge and how advertisers should partner with clients to close the gap between environmental and financial sustainability.

The issue also includes essays, musings, illustrations and more from all corners of the industry—including a call to arms from national AWARD co-chair and creative director, Karen Ferry, last Team talk from Effie Kacopieros and Christian Tough of Yes Agency, a discussion on who’s responsible for our collective stress levels from Never Not Creative’s Andy Wright, and an irresponsibly last-minute contribution from Colenso BBDO’s Max McKeon.

Says Siobhan Fitzgerald, Gabberish editor and M&C Saatchi Melbourne ACD: “Ideas have the power to not only sell things to the world, but to help save the world. These days advertisers balance responsibilities to clients and agencies, the environment and society. But who is responsible for our wellbeing?”

Says Jess Lilley, Gabberish co-editor and CD at Leo Burnett Melbourne: “More and more, agencies pride themselves on playing a leadership role in ideas that do good and bring about real change on global issues. Still, the industry is not perfect. And all of us need to use our voices to call out the irresponsible aspects that do damage, as much as we praise the good deeds.”
