Shine has appointed acclaimed creative director Richard Maddocks as its new chief creative officer, and world-renowned digital performance leader, Andy Schick as new head of digital.

Both hires come off the back of an unprecedented three-year business transformation journey for the creative and strategic business consultancy, that has seen them double in size over that time.

Maddocks and Schick will become shareholders, reporting into Shine CEO and co-founder Simon Curran.

Says Curran: “Maddocks joins ECD Chris Schofield to help take Shine’s creative product to the next level, building on the agency’s success and recent account wins. These hires will provide us with even more momentum and give us a truly unique and market leading offering.

“We’ve built a company of world class business people, analysts, strategists and creatives across multiple disciplines. From business strategy to brand, design, and advertising to digital performance and customer experience design, our ability to create value for our clients’ businesses right across the board is now something we think is quite unique.”

Over the past three years, Shine has won significant new business including Spark, Genesis, Z Tower and Callaghan Innovation, and have become valuable business partners well beyond the traditional remit of an agency. They have collaborated with innovative startups to bring new products to market, as well as working alongside Starship to double their fundraising base. They have created a creative in-residence program for students in low decile schools and work with secondary schools to fuel the creative confidence of students.

With new partners in the mix, they’re now poised to go to the next level.

Maddocks brings 30 years of experience as both a highly awarded writer and creative leader. Formerly ECD at both Colenso BBDO and Clemenger BBDO Sydney, his creative career has also seen him serve as chairman of AWARD Australasia and sit on the BBDO creative board. He has spent the past few years consulting to both agencies and clients.

Schick first forayed into New Zealand’s technology and business scene with his own startup in 2008, DataLock – an early cloud data backup solution which was acquired by Maxnet, then Vocus. He has since led marketing and revenue teams at N4L, Xero and was most recently chief revenue officer at Fergus – a VC-backed SaaS startup. He has also served as a marketing strategy consultant to the likes of Cisco, Pushpay, BNZ, Toyota, The Icehouse and more.
