Deadline looms for TRB’s 2021 Outstanding Radio Creative Awards; entries close 5pm tomorrow

The deadline for the 2021 Outstanding Radio Creative Awards (ORCA) is tomorrow, Wednesday, June 30 – get your entries in now.

There are two prize categories for the competition, with judging based on four criteria: creativity, execution, effectiveness, and innovation.

• The Grand ORCA: $10,000 total cash prize, $10,000 client radio campaign, ORCA trophy
• People’s Choice Award: $2,000 total cash prize, $5,000 client radio campaign, ORCA trophy

The competition is open to creatives whose campaign audio will air on a New Zealand commercial radio station within the competition period of June 30th 2020 to June 30th 2021. A person/team can enter more than once and submit multiple entries, however only one entry per person/team is eligible to win.

The 2020 Grand ORCA winners were Tim Thach and Brooke Wiley from Stanley St for their Rebel Sport campaign ‘Find Your Rhythm’. Judges praised their use of relevant SFX rather than a voice over to convey their message.

People’s Choice Award winners for the second-year running were David Shirley and Melina Fiolitakis from FCB for their PAK’nSAVE campaign ‘Savey’. Judges praised their use of ad length as a creative tool.

Says Peter Richardson, general manager, TRB: “After what was record breaking year for entries, we’re excited to see the creativity that will come through in the 2021 competition. We’ve heard some very smart uses of audio on air in past months, so the soon to be announced judges will have some hard decisions ahead of them.”

ORCA entries are notoriously easy to complete, with just an audio file and basic campaign details required at trb.co.nz/orca. Entries close tomorrow, June 30th 2021 at 5pm.
