After an extraordinary start to the year, Daylight Creative has welcomed Charlie Godinet to the whānau, as creative director. Charlie (Sapapali’i, Tufuiopa and Safotu, Sāmoa) joins from Colenso BBDO, where he spent the last five years making award winning campaigns for some of the country’s biggest and most loved brands.

A ‘spinoff of The Spinoff’, Daylight is a content studio which has editorial storytelling in its DNA. With huge growth within its first six months, Daylight now has 20 permanent staff and a client roster covering local and international partners, creating content delivered through film, animation, illustration, design, documentaries, podcasts and data visualisations.

Says Duncan Greive, CEO, The Spinoff Group: “We’re thrilled to have a creative mind like Charlie’s join Daylight. He brings immense skill and experience to our team, and represents a further evolution of our collective offering. We’re excited to see the work he and the team create for our partners and clients.”

Building on the partnerships with long term clients and the studio’s extraordinary work through the Covid-19 pandemic the addition of Godinet expands Daylight’s storytelling potential and unlocks new creative possibilities.

Says Godinet: “We’re now in the business of helping brands meaningfully participate in culture. And the vision Duncan, Lee and the team have for this was too exciting to pass up. I’m stoked to be a part of it and can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Godinet will also be working closely with Simon Day (Ngāti Hikairo), The Spinoff’s partnerships editorial director. He and the partnerships team bring to life stories for organisations and brands which resonate with The Spinoff’s immensely influential audience.

Says Day: “The power of storytelling is immense and I’m so excited to see how Charlie’s creative brain will elevate and shape the way we tell stories with our brand partners.”

Along with these changes to the Daylight creative department, Toby Morris steps into a new role as creative director of The Spinoff Group, overseeing Daylight, Hex Work Productions and The Spinoff.
