New look Axis Awards trophy unveiled
A new piece of iconography was unveiled last week at the sell-out Axis Awards ceremony and only a handful of creative agencies and production companies in Auckland, Wellington and Sydney have the new trophy taking pride of place in the display cabinet.
Antonio Navas, the 2013 Axis Awards convener of judges took to the stage to reveal the stunning new totem of creativity, a collaborative artwork created by Blake Enting and Cassidy van Dyk of Saatchi Design Worldwide, and sculptor Terry Stringer.
The new bronze trophy represents the crucible of the mind, each one, cast in a foundry, is actually full of wax, symbolizing the fluidity and the heat required to feed creativity.
Says Navas: “It’s also probably the world’s first practical trophy. You can put it on display, or, you can have a candlelit dinner with the loved ones you may have neglected in the long hours earning it.”
No doubt the creative juices will already be starting to flow in preparation for next year’s Axis Awards, scheduled for March 2014, and to ensure a new Axis trophy will take pride of place in the cabinet.

really nice
I hazily remember Antiono talking about this trophy for about an hour. Looks a bit like this, http://igorotech.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/miguel-cotto-face.jpg or this http://www.mauricemommaerts.eu/pictures/cms1/Bryon-pre-op-face.gif Still, nothing like pulling an award out, lighting it and leaving it in the middle of a table to impress the dinner guests. Would be a lovely evening.
Nice trophy design.
As candles, they will not work well though. Candles which are too wide or otherwise do not let excess melted wax drip down the side quickly choke the flame with more wax than the wick can handle.
” the sell out Axis Awards” …
Where’s the rolling eyes emoticon when you need one!
