OMD gives back and “does good” for Dominion Road Primary School in Mt Roskill, Auckland

127.jpgThe OMD Auckland office took a timeout from the throes of media on Tuesday to spend the day volunteering at Dominion Road Primary School in Mt Roskill, Auckland.

The “Do Good Day” staff initiative was a chance for OMD to give back to the community and to positively contribute to its stakeholders. OMD puts a great emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility and views it as an integral component to its ongoing success strategy and key to employment satisfaction.

280.jpgOMD approached Volunteering Auckland to source a project for the agency to get involved with, and when the Dominion Road Primary School opportunity came up, they found that this school’s needs were a perfect fit for what OMD were looking for.

Around 100 OMD amateur landscapers embarked on the mammoth tasks of weeding, mulching, planting and painting. Together they planted trees and redeveloped the eco-trail, which the children use to learn more about plants and the environment.

The finished results provided the children with better resources and facilities in their school.

OMD do good day.jpgMarian Caulfield, Dominion Road Primary principal, was extremely grateful for the efforts of the OMD staff.

Says Caulfield: “On behalf of the staff and students at Dominion Road School, I send our sincere thanks and appreciation to the team at OMD for their time, efforts, enthusiasm and commitment to our Garden Blast. OMD achieved in one day, what would normally take the school seven months to do which is unbelievable!

“OMD transformed our Eco Trail, and our students have been down there today playing in their remodelled environment. The results of their endeavours will be enjoyed by our students for some time to come.”

Chris Riley, OMD managing director, saw the project as a perfect fit for OMD.

Says Riley: “Our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme is very important to the staff at OMD and is directly linked with our values. Many of our staff are deeply passionate about the environment and sustainability. The Eco-Trail project at Dominion Road School was such a great opportunity to involve our entire company in an “environment” based initiative that will benefit generations of children and teachers.

“We are so happy that we could help the school on this important project and hope they are delighted with the results.”

OMD received assistance from some dedicated teaching staff and very enthusiastic students. The pupils showed off their horticulture skills and educated OMD staff in the art of gardening and looking after their school grounds.

The OMD staff were taken on a short tour of the school with students, which involved visiting each of the years and the school’s facilities. OMD staff members were able to ask students questions and observe the daily classroom activities.

A “Do Good Day” has been organised for the OMD Wellington office in June, where they will be widening a community bush track in Karori.
