Burger King and Tui launch pub-themed King’s Tavern menu and campaign via Colenso BBDO
What goes together better than burger and beers? Nothing, that’s what. So Colenso BBDO has introduced two of their favourite clients, Burger King and DB Breweries to create two limited time burgers using Tuimato and BarBTui sauces in a match-made-in-taste-heaven collaboration.
“The Feast” is the first to launch at Burger King, as part of a pub-themed King’s Tavern menu, that also includes beer battered fries and onion rings.
The brand fit was a natural one, with Tui Brewery and Burger King looking to target similar males with an edgy, challenger and humorous spirit.
Says James Woodbridge, GM of marketing at Burger King: “The partnership eventuated through our customer’s love of limited-time beer battered menu items. Recently the opportunity to partner with Tui to include Tuimato and BarBTui sauces, adds a depth of flavor to our great tasting flame grilled burgers that only these sauces can deliver. This partnership is the perfect match – providing a flame grilled burger sensation that we’re confident our BK customers are going to enjoy.”
Says William Papesch, Tui marketing manager: “The Tui Brewery has been feeding the backs since 1889, so we are well aware the lads need quality sustenance before catching up for a few beers and a laugh. Sure Tui is best known for our iconic beer, but Kiwis have also developed a liking for our Tuimato and BarBTui sauces. Burger King’s new King’s Tavern menu showcases these popular sauces and the fruits of a great team effort, a must try for all Kiwi lads.”
The campaign was teased on Facebook before Monday, when a number of the Tui Brewery’s Yeah Right! billboards appeared with the line ‘Burger King and a brewery. That’ll never work.’ The first of two TVCs launched on Tuesday. The campaign will also include digital
elements, POP, and a promotional vouchering mechanic that drives people from Burger King to purchase Tui, and vice versa.
Says Nick Worthington, Colenso BBDO’s creative chairman: “I’ll have a salad and a carrot juice please. Yeah right.”
