NZC0047.1_SST_54x5.jpgThis month’s Ad of the Month judges had a busy time of it with entries for December and January highlighting some winning work. It’s the first time there has been so many Special Mentions and also this month, two new contenders joined the Agency League table.

December saw a win for True with their ANZ Blackcaps vs West Indies ad. Judges said the ‘fantastic copywriting’ made this a winner.

Highly commended awards went to DraftFCB for their Pak’n Save ‘Meat Week’ ad; Whybin\TBWA for their Minds for Minds ad that the judges said was a “beautiful ad that had both copy and art departments working together” and Assignment for their Absolutely Positively Wellington campaign.

WINNER lorde-new-zealand-herald.jpgAnd if Lorde hasn’t won enough awards, her letter in the NZ Herald took January’s Ad of the Month which was placed in association with Saiko Management.  According to the judges it had “great art direction with the tone of the writing reflecting the authenticity that it came from Lorde herself.  This could have only run in newspapers, it wouldn’t have worked as effectively in any other medium”

Special Mention’s came in thick and fast for January also.  Special Mention for January went to Saatchi & Saatchi Wellington for their Wellington Zoo “The Devils are Here” ad; with 3rd equal being awarded again to DraftFCB for their Pak’n Save ad, “Blowing my mind” which judges felt showed “best use of a starburst in a NZ medium in the history of advertising”; and Special Group with their ad for News Works “things are believed first in newspapers”.

December & January’s judges were Terry Herbert, BallantyneTaylor; Alan Jones, DraftFCB; Paul White, AUT; and Emma Harrison Clark, Shirtcliffe & Co .

As well as the points towards the Agency League, the winning creative team also win $250 cash, their ad also goes through as a finalist in the 2014 $10,000 Newspaper Ad of the Year, and will be entered by News Works into the Axis Awards.

Any ad that runs in a newspaper in New Zealand is eligible to enter the competition.
