Charming talking animals star in Sky’s latest brand campaign via DDB Aotearoa
Sky New Zealand launched its new Life Needs More Sky brand platform this week, with a campaign developed by DDB Aotearoa that shows how much-loved entertainment permeates life – no matter who, or what, you are.
Building on the Life Needs More Sport platform launched two years ago, this campaign provides another enduring, yet simple idea to connect with audiences.
Directed by Joel Kefali, the launch film is set on a farm in New Zealand and features a montage of iconic movie and television quotes delivered by a cast of unexpected characters – charming talking animals.
DDB Aotearoa lead business partner Karla Fisher says the unexpected delivery highlights just how iconic these cinematic moments are; that even completely divorced from their original context they’re still immediately familiar: “Shared entertainment is bigger than any one series or film, often it leaves a mark on us long after we’ve turned off the screen. The brand platform reflects this idea, and this campaign brings it to life in a fun, eye-catching way.
“Through this work, we wanted to communicate the magic of entertainment and how Sky delivers that magic. This campaign is the first phase of the journey and we’re looking forward to seeing where we can take it in the future, and how we can bring these characters to life in the real world over the coming months.”
Sky New Zealand’s head of brand and sport marketing Helen Fitzsimons says Life Needs More Sky is a logical extension of the ‘Life Needs More Sport’ brand platform and gets to the heart of what Sky means to New Zealanders: “At Sky, we’re about making life more entertaining for all New Zealanders and connecting them to the sport and stories they love. Whether it’s a favourite TV series, movie or sports game, entertainment brings us together – it connects us to culture, and to each other.
“Life Needs More Sky resonates because these are the moments we need more of; the ones that stay with us long after the movie is over, or the game has finished. The campaign demonstrates that idea and is entertaining in and of itself – because there really is no such thing as too much entertainment.”
Sky’s latest campaign launched on 11th August with a 60” film, and extends across Cinema, TV, OOH, digital and social media.

The ad you linked is real different, it’s closer to mr.wind than this one…
Another belter from DDB.
They’re at the top of their game, almost every team firing on all cylinders.
Time for a department lunch to celebrate!
Your head is so far up their arse the only thing you’re eating for lunch is shit.
Wow get a life you absolute troll. If you’ve got nothing nice to say, bugger off!! Disgusting.
In total agreement with you – I actually stop whatever I’m doing to watch it! With what we’re all dealing with right now in this surreal Covid-19 world, a slice of ingenious, funny & quirky advertising is something to revel in. DDB, take a bow! ??

This was made decades ago for MNET, South Africa’s equivalent to Sky TV. And just so happens that the CCO and ECD are Saffa’s??????
No. No we are not. When that idea was on a scrap of paper, what was the idea? Before talking animals became the execution, what was the idea? I can’t see it. All I sees is talking animals. Canal+ Bear became a great Director because he lay on the lounge floor for years watching great movies. I see that idea. I don’t see this idea.
That was just plain bad. Not endearing, not clever, just polished.
No idea. Life needs more…is not an idea. The treatment is talking animals. The script is famous quotes from movies delivered by talking animals. And there it stops. What is the Raison d’etre?
The link that the CCO and ECD are Saffas is a stretch… you are really fishing.
Love the ad, even my dog loves it
I LOVE THE AD.
THE EMOTION OF ANIMALS BRINGING JOY TO THE PEOPLE COMPARED TO DRAMA AND KILLINGS WHICH ARE NOW A DAILY
HAPPENING IN THE MEDIA!!
It’s a fabulous ad — I’m imitating the voices ALL day even to my cat ——
well done —
What does the cow say?
The cow says, “We’re going streaking” (quoted from ‘Old School’ movie 2003).
What does the Cow say it’s not clear, and what movie?
I. Can’t understand the cow
How can I find out which film etc the sayings from the animals come from. It is driving g us mad not knowing.
Type the quote in the Google search box and you’ll get the answer once you scroll down to the movie quote entry. The animals have been used in the ad, along with a selection of movie quotes.
Hi, I worked with Rosie Miles and team, we trained the animals for this advert. It was fantastic to work on. Great crew, and such wonderful imagination in the creative process.
We ,as the trainers are so proud of what our animals have helped to create.
Every project we work on extends our training repertoire and skills. And this was a fantastic project. Thankyou for the opportunity to work on this wonderful piece of advertising!
Regards Julie Whiu, animals trainer.
Ps…my horse is Nemo and his line is ” you couldn’t handle the truth”.
He has an amazing presence with people, carries the groom at indian weddings, brides in english regalia, children and is fabulous with other animals, pigs, donkeys even peacocks.
Not much fazes him, even me in a temporary wheelchair!❤ each and everyone of the animals were fabulous to work with and are pros at their work, to them its playtime!??
Hi. I love it and I’m partially deaf so I can only hear what the horse says. The cow and rabbit are my faves. If someone could let me know what they say I would be happy. It’s the best ad on TV making people happy in such uncertain and scary times. Good for you sky and ignore the trolls let them go about their miserable lives
I love the ad – I even play it on YouTube every morning just before the day’s grind begins. I far as I know the animals say (not necessarily in correct order):
Rabbit – You talking to me? You talking to me?
Deer – Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
Tortoise – I live my life a quarter mile at a time.
Horse 1 – I want the truth! Horse 2 – You can’t handle the truth!
Pig – I’ll have what she’s having.
Dog – “What a day, what a lovely day.
Rabbit – And now my watch begins.
I think that’s the lot.
Keep it on for years and years please, Sky.
Why have they removed the goat
I luv it, know the lines by heart. Would love to know where the lines come from. Got some -Deer (Muhummid Ali), Horses (movie- A Few Good Men), Rabbit (movie- Taxi Driver- Robert de Nero.
Why was the Goat removed
