Back from London, Charlie Mckay and Jess Murphy sign with LoserKid

New Zealand based creative production house and artist agency, Loser Kid has pulled together some of the best and brightest Kiwi talent, and now adds to their impressive roster with the signing of photographer Charlie McKay and set designer, stylist and art director Jess Murphy.
Fresh back from nine years based full-time in the UK, the pair have returned to Aotearoa and are excited to be working once again in their home country.
Between them, they have built an extensive catalogue of work and an impressive client base, both independently and in collaboration.
Jess Murphy worked for top British set designer Shona Heath making elaborate props and sets for the fashion world. During this time, she had the opportunity to work alongside iconic photographers like Tim Walker, Paolo Roversi, Inez & Vinoodh, Viviane Sassen and Craig McDean. Jess has also designed spaces and shot for many high-end clients like Dior, Hermes, Marni, Jimmi Choo, The Pirelli Calendar and the V&A Museum. Her work has also featured in top publications like Vogue, Another, i-D, W Magazine and LOVE.
Since leaving the shores of New Zealand back in 2012 Charlie McKay has been based in London, shooting for clients in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Greece, and Los Angeles.
Kicking off his career in publishing as an art director, overseeing all photography and illustration briefs for Metro Magazine for over three years in the late noughties and then moving agency side, informs Charlie’s approach to a client brief.
His exceptional use of light, eye for composition, and a deep understanding of how images are used across multiple media outputs sees him sought after by international brands and publications including The Standard Hotel, GQ Magazine, Ottolenghi, Suntory, Glenmorangie, The Telegraph, Bacardi, Miller Harris Fragrances, and Eggslut.
About 5 years ago the two identified synergies in the work they were creating and so began collaborating to create a special magic that can be seen in their still-life, product, and lifestyle shoots.
Says Benn Jae, founder and director of Loser Kid: “It’s incredibly exciting to be growing our team with more internationally renowned kiwi talent.
“We are delighted to be able to represent such a high calibre of artists like Charlie and Jess. With this addition LoserKid is really shaping up to become a wonderful tapestry of unique and fresh talent.”
