After 16 years Colenso BBDO COO Paul Courtney to depart the agency tomorrow; plans to start up his own production and studio in Jan operation

In a post on his LinkedIn page today Colenso BBDO chief operating officer Paul Courtney announced that, after 16 years, he was departing the agency tomorrow and will be heading out to start up his own production and studio operation to launch in January.

After 16 years at Colenso, I’m here to share that I’m finishing up tomorrow. Some thought it would never happen. Heck, I thought it would never happen. But it’s time to take the leap and start something new.

I’m heading out to start up my own production and studio operation. Starting a business right now is pretty freaky, but I know I have the support of a whole bunch of incredible people and I’m sure that, with a bit of hard work, it will all pan out.

We’ll be opening the studio in January ready to help. Between now and then I’ll do all the fun stuff, like build a website, hire some people, make some merch, buy some macs, set up the studio and plan a launch event.

If you want to find me between now and Jan, I’ll be operating from The Tuesday Club in Airedale St. So, give me a bell or pop in for a sandwich, I’ll be on the same mobile number or DM me via LinkedIn.

One thing I need to do before I sign off from Colenso is publicly thank the people I’ve worked, cried, laughed and partied with over the past 16 years.

I’m fortunate to have learnt from some very special leaders: Roger MacDonnell, Brent Smart, Richard Maddocks, Nick Worthington, Nick Garrett, Scott Coldham, Maria Devereux, Jim Moser, Jim Gall, Mike Higgins, Strahan Wallis, Levi Slavin, Steve Cochran, Kimberley Ragan, Simon Vicars and the fantastic Angela Watson. Thanks for leading me and thanks for teaching me, I appreciate it so much.

To the creatives, suits, producers, studio, digital folk and finance crew – thank you so much. The work we made together got us to number one in the world. I’m so very proud of what we made together.

To my peeps – you know who you are, a very special thanks for the encouragement, cover and support through thick and thin. I’ll forever be there for you too.

And to my future clients, I’ll be open in Jan!! Stand by for a launch and some sweet free merch.
