Sweetshop director Tom Gould releases new short film ‘The Boat’
After years in the works, Sweetshop director Tom Gould has released his short film The Boat.
Gould describes the film as “A gentle film about the ways we try to protect the ones we love”.
Set in Gould’s hometown within Aotearoa, New Zealand. The film is based on real events and follows the relationship between a young father and daughter over the course of a weekend. Ultimately, the young girl’s intuition is underestimated by her father’s attempt to hide the truth.
Gould’s photographic eye shines through as this softly spoken story unfolds through alluring images, and emotionally relatable characters.
Subtle and beautiful, this film is a must-watch for lovers of NZ made art.
Gould invites all to experience this film which is now live online.
Says Gould: “Many years in the making, it is special to finally have it out there in the world. A huge mihi to everyone who helped make this film possible and believed in the kaupapa. Enjoy.”
