Photographer Manja Wachsmuth wins Pink Lady Food Photographer of The Year 2023 (NZ) award
Photographer Manja Wachsmuth has been awarded ‘Food Photographer of the Year 2023 – New Zealand Regional Award’ in renowned global competition The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards.
The annual Awards celebrate the very best in food photography and film and attract tens of thousands of entries from around the world each year. The results were announced this morning New Zealand time.
The competition encompasses a wide range of food photography categories, but the Regional Awards are at the judges’ discretion and chosen from outstanding entries submitted from a particular region. The international judging panel is led by Chair of Judges, renowned photographer David Loftus.
The Auckland-based photographer’s winning image is entitled ‘Eggs at Farina Ponsonby’ and was part of a photoshoot for New Zealand magazine Cuisine.
While the image was an “out-take”, Wachsmuth says the shot of the chef in the kitchen has been a favourite of hers: “I love the silent modesty about it, the simple light and the calm moment where he’s preparing food alongside his own thoughts.”
A professional photographer for 20 years, Danish-born Wachsmuth has established herself as a sought-after food, beverage, and lifestyle photographer, working with agencies, lifestyle brands, publishers, and top chefs such as Ben Bayly, Monique Fiso and Peter Gordon.
She has also worked on advertising campaigns for global brands such as Heineken, American Express and Nespresso.
Wachsmuth says it was fantastic to wake up to the news of her New Zealand Regional Award win in this year’s competition: “I’m so excited and proud because this award show is so incredibly hard to be recognised in. Every year, thousands of entries from brilliant photographers across the globe are submitted in the hopes that they will be recognised.
“I’ve had a small trickle of little wins in this competition before, but this one is particularly special and emphasises the reputation I’ve worked tirelessly to gain.”
