As part of its mission to break down the barriers of diversity in Aotearoa’s trades industry, this week TradeCareers, in partnership with BCITO Te Pūkenga and Waihanga Ara Rau Workforce Development Council, launch a new platform to do just that, developed by Daylight.
Building Belonging is a multi-channel educational platform that strives to support people within the trades industry with hiring more diversely and creating safe workspaces for anyone. Covering topics from gender and cultural inclusion to ethical hiring practices and maternity leave, this platform leaves no topic untouched.
Says Tess Waters, project manager, TradeCareers: “Worksites can be a challenging place to be at the best of times, especially if you don’t fit the traditional mould. This project is a step towards all the work that needs to be done by speaking directly to the people who can make a difference.”
Comprising of a six-part podcast and long-form film series hosted by chippys Genevieve Black and Chris Donnelly, each episode speaks to industry leaders to unpack the kinds of challenges they’re up against and the solutions we should be seeking.
Supported by a suite of social content and digital collateral, this project represents a significant commitment from the trades industry to pave the way for a more inclusive future and more open kōrero about the confronting parts of the job.
Says Charlie Godinet, creative director, Daylight: “This was such a meaningful body of work for our team to dive into and we look forward to continuing this mahi into the future.”
