Reel Good Yarns with Laura Sargisson

Get to know the faces behind the camera in Reel Factory’s spotlight series, with director Laura Sargisson.

In an alternate universe Laura ‘Sarge’ Sargisson would be an aspiring DOP, had it not been for a chance encounter with her university art lecturer.

Hailing from Ashburton, completing a Masters in Documentary Filmmaking in Dunedin and now calling Auckland home, Sargisson’s career began with doco-style content, cutting her teeth in the industry as a jack-of-all trades who directed, produced, filmed and edited herself.

A knack for finding talent through non-conventional methods, Sargisson excels when working with real people, particularly kids, creating an on-set environment where talent feels comfortable opening up and bringing their best.

An avid sports fan, film aficionado and provider to miniature cavoodles Chilli and Margie (an insight into her cocktail of choice), find out here about how Sargisson found her way into the director’s chair and the highlights and lessons along the way.
