Ex-OMD strategist Cat Macnaughtan’s ‘Getting Lost’ wins big at 2degrees Business Awards
Adventure card game Getting Lost, created by former OMD strategist Cat Macnaughtan, has achieved an extraordinary, rare trifecta at the 2degrees Auckland Business Awards, claiming the overall Supreme Excellence award as well as two key category wins: Excellence in Marketing and Excellence in Strategy and Planning.
With 48 finalists present at the awards for the north and west category, Getting Lost triumphed by taking home the gold this week.
Macnaughtan (pictured below) said the team is thrilled to be recognised in three different categories: “It’s an honour to have our hard work recognised, as it not only reflects the passion our team brings to every challenge but also celebrates our journey thus far.
“We started Getting Lost with an initial investment of just $3,000 and working nights and weekends initially, last June I finally got the courage to leave my day job and it’s just exploded from there and we’re just about to reach 300,000 games sold.
“I’ve always believed that brands should start with people first and be built backwards from that. And so, we started with a problem that people told us they had (how to get off their phones and find amazing places) and we designed back from there. Every game that we make is co-designed with our 100,000+ community and I guess that’s what the judges say as unique and certainly what has lead to our success.
“It’s an interesting process creating products with 100,000 stakeholders but the results that we get and the things that we learn along the way make it all worthwhile.”
Launched in 2018, the adventure card game puts all the decisions in the hands of chance, guiding users on a journey where the directions and activities are left to fate. Getting Lost is now sold in 150 Australian retail stores and 300 NZ retail stores and growing, and online at www.gettinglost.co.nz.
