Academy Agency Launches Affordable Marketing Platform to Support Struggling Kiwi Businesses

Auckland social media agency Academy Agency has launched IN-HOUSE, a marketing education platform that provides low-cost marketing guides and lessons to Kiwi businesses struggling to keep the lights on amid trying times.

Small businesses are feeling the pressure, with closures mounting and operating costs biting into thin margins. They need social media to stay top-of-mind, but most struggle to execute and can’t afford agency support.

According to Academy, 16% of marketing managers report that they can’t keep up with changing algorithms, which begs the question of how owners keep up at all. Typical agency fees range from $1,500 to $5,000 a month, a massive cost that is completely out of reach for most.

Enter IN-HOUSE, a tool that can bridge this gap, and provide marketing expertise to those who most need it, at 1% of the normal agency fees.

Started by Harry Dalton, the tightly-held intellectual property of the agency has been chopped into small pieces, priced between $30-$50 per guide, instead of the usual $2,500 per month. A realistic solution for New Zealand businesses seeking professional marketing support without the traditional agency price tag.

“Although our big clients were doing well, I noticed the small ones were losing the battle. I really wanted to see if I could do something to help not just a few but potentially thousands of small businesses who are struggling across New Zealand,” Dalton says.

The platform, which is a simple Shopify website, sells specific “how-to” guides in the form of downloadable PDFs. The E-learning industry, which was valued globally at over $315 billion in 2021, is projected to grow to $1 trillion by 2028.

The PDFs contain the exact strategies that Academy has used to deliver exceptional results for major Kiwi brands like YOUKNOW Clothing, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Otis Oat Milk and Barker’s Menswear.

Matt Williams, an artisan Honey maker in the Coromandel has just created his first Youtube video based on an IN-HOUSE guide.

Says Williams: “Thanks team, your guide was super helpful. Definitely getting a laptop to edit the next one, doing it on an iPad was diabolical! I’ll be looking at some of the other templates!”

Since launching in late May, IN-HOUSE has received incredible feedback and already sold dozens of guides. Dalton says he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Kiwi icon and investing educator Simran Kaur, who now has over 10,000 students globally and a best-selling book on investing. Paving the way for other Kiwi education companies like IN-HOUSE.
