Campaign Brief Creative Circle: What’s hot in January?
Each month, Campaign Brief invites a group of creatives from across Aotearoa to spotlight one standout piece of local work created outside their own agency – a space for celebrating the fresh thinking, craft and homegrown creativity that continues to raise the bar across the industry.
This month features YoungShand’s Corey Chalmers; ANTI Agency’s Jane Langley; Special Wellington’s Mark Forgan; and Remade’s Clara McLaurin.

A recent-ish campaign that brought me joy is Always Be Naturing for the Department of Conservation (DOC), by Deloitte Digital. Much like a kiwi bird, this little winner has been quietly out there doing its business and making us smile without much fuss. The series of fresh, single shot(ish) 30 second spots are beautifully written, directed with effortless constraint, and birthed one of my new favourite phrases, “the rise and fall of cargo pants.” A quiet achiever, this one. Makes me proud to be a nature nerd myself.

This one reminds me of all the brilliant social change ads that’ve been made in NZ in the past couple of decades. It’s all about that satisfying blend of pinpoint-accurate insight, utterly real dialogue, and something a little bit mad to keep us watching: in this case, that outrageously well art-directed toilet cubicle office. Love it. A high note to end on, FCB. So long, farewell, and long live The Cult.

Mark Forgan, Special Wellington
Holding true to form, L&P has made another uniquely Kiwi campaign, this time with the help of locals Allan P, Ellie P, Aly P, etc. I saw it in short form on social and had a little chuckle. Is it as genius as they say? Who knows. But it did exactly what it was meant to do—I thought of L&P, it made me want to go buy one and smash it down (with a Peanut Slab). Yum.

Clara McLaurin, Remade
Lately I’ve noticed and loved the idea of Booze Maths in a new campaign from NZTA – Waka Kotahi and FCB Aotearoa. Even if you struggle at actual maths, Booze Maths is something many of us embrace. Unfortunately.
This idea helps to spot the behaviour and provides an opportunity to learn what you should be doing if you find yourself performing some dodgy calculations. Well done to all involved.
