Campaign Brief Creative Circle: What’s hot in March?
Each month, Campaign Brief invites top creatives from across Aotearoa to spotlight one standout piece of local work created outside their own agency – a space for celebrating the fresh thinking, craft and homegrown creativity that continues to raise the bar across the industry.
This month features picks by Special’s Stu Mallarkey, DDB Aotearoa’s Sarah Shepherd, Motion Sickness’ Jordan Stent and FEDERATION’s Bobbie McKay (featured clockwise).
Stu Mallarkey, Special
You know an idea is good when you actually get involved with it and as the proud owner of THE MOOLARKABLES in Fantasy Herd I’m looking forward to seeing how I go at cow-based fantasy sports. A bonkers idea combined with brilliant craft, media integrations, great use of Generative Ai and love the partnership with Halter giving real time cow data. Shout out to Gary, Freddie, Matt and the herd at McCann!

Sarah Shepherd, DDB Aotearoa
Reckon I can (just) sneak in this hat-tip to The Agency Formerly Known As FCB before the paint dries on the McCann signage. I like the retro horror film vibe of the art direction on this one. And rebranding ‘speeding’ as the less exciting ‘rushing’ cleverly strips it of its appeal. It certainly made me slow down and take notice.

Jordan Stent, Motion Sickness
Set aside the non-skippable bumpers and fleeting ad slots between MAFS and Desperate Housewives – I wanna shout out to the equally grotesque folks sweating buckets under layers of prosthetics, dedicated alligator RC car operators, the minutiae of miniature detailing, and the team who pushed for practical over faking it. Sign me up for more of this beautiful, horrible madness.

Bobbie McKay, FEDERATION
At a time when Super Bowl was dominating the news, Meadow Fresh launched Fantasy Herd – the world’s most exciting fantasy sports cow trading game. With names like ‘Pasture Shredder’ and ‘Patrick Moo-homes’, it can take a while to select a cow captain before getting your head around the nuances of milking data. It’s topical, gloriously silly and sneakily educational. And who doesn’t love an agricultural pun?
