Special and Motion Sickness lead NZ’s charge at 2024 Effie Global Best of the Best Awards

Three New Zealand campaigns have been named as contenders in the prestigious 2024 Effie Global Best of the Best Awards, recognised among the world’s most effective work of the past year.
Organised by Effie Worldwide, the Global Best of the Best Awards are reserved exclusively for campaigns that have previously earned Gold or Grand Effie recognition in local markets. The result is a shortlist of the highest-performing marketing efforts from around the globe—campaigns that have combined creative bravery with commercial success.
Special New Zealand has earned two finalist spots. Its campaign for Partners Life, ‘Last Performance’, is competing in the Brand Content & Entertainment – Products category, while ‘The Silent Night’ for Wellington City Mission is shortlisted in Experiential Marketing – Brand Experience.
Says Tony Bradbourne, Founder, Special: “To have two separate campaigns recognised as being amongst the most effective in the world is hugely impressive. It shows the effort and rigour we put into every brief, big or small. And it’s great to have Special Wellington recognised for the incredible work they are producing in the capital. Just three years old and producing some of the most effective work in the world, let alone NZ, shows what an incredibly talented team they are.”
Says Rory Gallery, Chief Strategy Officer, Special: “At the start, middle and end of the day, advertising is about effectiveness. We believe the type of breakthrough creativity we create across every office in our network, work that is best described as ‘special’, is the most effective way to achieve it. So, it’s great to have that belief and approach recognised by the global authority on marketing effectiveness.”

Motion Sickness is also representing New Zealand, with its campaign for Fire and Emergency New Zealand, ‘You’re Cooked’, recognised in the Government, Institutional & Recruitment category.
Says Hilary Ngan Kee, Partner / Head of Strategy, Motion Sickness: “To make the cut as one of only 58 contenders for the ‘best of the best’ globally is phenomenal. And to be the only entry left standing in our category is a testament to the courage of our client, Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Recognition for effectiveness, at the global level, for work that’s designed to keep Aotearoa safe and ultimately save lives – that’s a good day at the office.”
These nominations solidify New Zealand’s continued presence on the global stage when it comes to creative effectiveness and ideas that work.
The winners of the 2024 Global Best of the Best Effie Awards will be announced later this year.
