OPPO New Zealand’s 14% growth boosted by partnership with Common Ground PR

A shared challenger mindset has proven a winning formula as OPPO New Zealand confirms Common Ground PR as its retained PR agency, following a year of ambitious, results-driven collaboration.
While New Zealand’s overall smartphone market declined 4% year-on-year in unit sales from 2023-24, OPPO bucked the trend with a 14% increase in unit sales in the same period*, a clear sign of growing consumer demand and brand relevance.
The boutique Auckland PR agency Common Ground has worked alongside OPPO to help fuel this momentum. This has been through standout campaigns, refreshed storytelling and strategic media engagement.
Globally, OPPO launched its first smartphone in 2008 and opened its New Zealand office a decade later. Known for premium camera technology, innovative design and strong value, its product line now spans smartphones, tablets, wearables and audio devices.
One of the year’s standout moments was the launch of the Find X8 Pro, OPPO’s return to the premium flagship category. Common Ground PR led a multi-faceted campaign that began with taking key New Zealand media and key customers to Bali for the global unveiling, and culminated in a high-impact rooftop event in Auckland: a photography exhibition powered by the Find X8 Pro, showcasing the work of four leading local photographers.
This creative momentum has gone hand-in-hand with OPPO’s strong performance in the local market and deepened its connection with New Zealand consumers.
OPPO New Zealand Managing Director Morgan Halim says the partnership has been pivotal in evolving the brand’s communications strategy.
“As a challenger brand in New Zealand’s smartphone space, we were looking for a partner who could bring fresh thinking and a deep understanding of the local consumer landscape, all while offering direct access to senior talent. Common Ground PR has delivered from day one, impressing us with their creative energy and strategic insights.”
Common Ground PR Director Olivia Boswell says the agency is proud to support OPPO’s ambitious vision.
“New Zealanders have a strong affinity for challenger brands and OPPO has a values-led story worth sharing. From leading-edge product design to authentic community engagement, OPPO consistently takes a bold and differentiated approach. We’re proud to be part of their journey and excited about what’s to come,” she says.
