Match Artists signs Sophie Miya-Smith
Match Artists has announced the signing of Sophie Miya-Smith, introducing the New Zealand photographer as the newest addition to its internationally recognised roster.
Says Fern Holloway, Director and Executive Producer: “Sophie’s work immediately stands out. She brings a refined fashion eye, which combined with her exploration of youthful ideologies and contemporary aesthetics, results in playful fashion, lifestyle and portraiture work that beautifully balances spontaneity and structure.”
With a scholarship from Te Ara Fine Art Awards, Miya-Smith studied Communication Design at Auckland University of Technology. Following this, she was selected for a BFA in photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California.
Miya-Smith’s visual approach is underpinned by her love for both photography and design, having started her career as a designer at FCB West in San Francisco. Shooting across digital and film formats, Miya-Smith is equally at home in studio as she is on location, producing imagery that is contemporary, visually assured, and grounded in a strong sense of connection between people and place.
Says Miya-Smith: “I’m thrilled to be signing with Match Artists in Aotearoa. It’s an honour to be represented alongside such an established and respected roster with decades of experience. Their reputation for nurturing talent and producing meaningful, visually assured work aligns closely with my own approach, and I’m really looking forward to working with Fern and contributing my perspective within a group that values thoughtful, collaborative image-making.”
Adds Holloway: “Sophie is incredibly talented, wonderfully collaborative, and she’s a genuine pleasure to work with – a true triple threat. We’re very excited to welcome her as the first new signing in this chapter of Match and to support her continued upward trajectory on both local and global stages.”
