Campaign Brief Creative Circle: What’s hot in May?
Each month, Campaign Brief invites top creatives from across Aotearoa to spotlight one standout piece of local work created outside their own agency – a space for celebrating the fresh thinking, craft and homegrown creativity that continues to raise the bar across the industry.
This month’s Creative Circle features picks by Special’s Lisa Fedyszyn, Bastion Aotearoa’s Oli Green; McCann New Zealand’s Kat Tadaki and Bad Magic’s Thomas Darlow (pictured clockwise).

The stand out piece I’ve seen lately is a painfully simple, big idea for Burger King. Borrowing the famous competitor phrase “want fries with that?” and using it for “public good” as a sampling idea. Yes I do want fries with everything I order from shampoo to tampons to even a burger delivered to my door.

The craft is beautiful from the product to the Dylan Pharazyn directed accompanying film but it’s the opinion of the work which is why I have asked that it be featured here in this list.
Let me start this by acknowledging my brethren at Motion Sickness on their dynastic run. It feels like great work comes out from them weekly – and this piece of work starts to speak to how. This piece of work is about their process. And it’s only when your product is captivating that your process becomes interesting.
As creative people – respect, curiosity, slack-jawed reverence for the spooky process of being a vessel of ideas is vital. Recognising that ideas are not a result of mechanistic grinding of gears. Instead, they are the result of listening and acting. Idea are not had they are heard. They are noticed like a fart in limo and then you act and the idea is yours or you don’t and idea drifts to the next human antennae.
Which comes to Blood Oath. Motion Sickness are asking us all to pick a path time. Outsource your connection to the divine and potentially become complicit to in your own demise. Or embrace the weird and wonderful.

Life has never needed a biscuit more than now. When the insight is the product, that’s a sweet spot to play in (pun absolutely intended). The films are charming, authentic, and beautifully crafted, you forget you’re watching an ad. The casting, from quintessential Kiwi to quirky, really adds to the watchability of the spots. Accompanied by a biscuit, of course.
