Curious screens cracking good British film ‘Shifty’ at New Zealand cinemas for a limited time
British indie film ‘SHIFTY’ opened in Auckland and Wellington last Thursday, receiving rave reviews and praise from BFM, Radio Active, Nightline, The Listener and Dominion Post.
SHIFTY is a powder keg of a film, shot in 18 days with a budget of £100,000 pounds, and it’s the first film to screen via Curious Film’s distribution arm, Curious Distribution, which brings independent and cult international films to audiences in Australia & New Zealand.
‘SHIFTY’ tells the story of a London crack dealer, Shifty (Riz Ahmed),who is set up by one of his associates at the same time as his bestcustomer runs out of cash, his big brother finds his stash, and hisex-best mate visits for the weekend.
The Dominion Post gives SHIFTY 4-Stars and says: “Without glorifyingthe life of a drug dealer, Shifty makes a compelling argument for yourneighbourhood drug dealer being just another working joe trying to getby in an unpleasant job. Director Eran Creevy’s debut feature hasenergy, wit, performances, structure, and charm to burn. Try to see it.”
Eran Creevy has just been nominated in the Outstanding Debut categoryat the 2010 BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts).
The Listener praises the film and says: “It would be a mistake to callthis an example of a good cheap film. It’s a cracking good film, period.”
Dazed & Confused says: “SHIFTY will restore your faith in Britishfilm”, while The List describes it as, “An urban film with guts, heartand soul”.
SHIFTY is currently showing at cinemas in Auckland and Wellington for alimited time. Be amongst the first to see this acclaimed film.
