Hot creative team Tucker and Vicars set to depart DDB for Colenso BBDO for July 1 start
DDB New Zealand creative team James Tucker and Simon Vicars are departing DDB at the end of June to take up roles at Colenso BBDO.
Since arriving at DDB as interns in early 2007 they have become two of the highest ranked creatives in this year’s Big Won report. Young Guns also recognised the pair earlier this year – ranked first equal as the world’s best advertising creatives.
Says DDB Group executive creative director Toby Talbot: “Si and Giant were pretty much my first hires when I joined DDB. It was their first real job in advertising. They started on placement here, worked hard and learned fast. Their passion, humility and appetite for creating funny ads will be missed by everyone around here.
“Of course I’m sad to see them go but there’s no other agency I’d rather see them go to than Colenso.”
Memorable campaigns from Tucker and Vickers include the ANZ ‘Perfect World’ campaign, ‘Mexi-Doug’ for Instant Kiwi, Sky TV’s ‘Que Sera Sera’ and the internationally heralded Sky TV Arts Channel print and radio campaign.

Huge.
Massive loss to the agency, but you’re both great dudes who will continue to do amazing things. Congrats fellas.
Hot? They’re actually quite average looking.
Well done boys. Huge loss for DDB though.
Nice one Si and Giant! Colenso’s gain is DDB’s loss big time.
Do Colenso do funny? Not sure if they do.
Two really talented nice guys. All the best with the new gig men.
Any one know a good lawyer?
Escaped.
You’re going the wrong way fellas.
Big mistake. Nick won’t give them the one on one Toby did.
“Of course I’m sad to see them go but there’s no other agency I’d rather see them go to than Colenso.”
ha.
best of luck guys, the place won’t be the same without you
If they take their Sky arts channel awards will DDB have any metal left in reception?
Good on them. And good on Colenso. They need to inject some humour in that place and these guys are awesome.
They will be fresh with some new creative direction and will kick ass.
“Of course I’m sad to see them go but there’s no other agency I’d rather see them go to than Colenso.”
That sentence can be read a couple of different ways. Quite amusing.
“Nick won’t give them the one on one Toby did”
Rude.
“Nick won’t give them the one on one Toby did”
True.

How is this a bad move? There are only two agencies in NZ at the moment that you’d want to work for. These guys are leaving one to go to the other. Going to Y&R would be dumb. Does Y&R still exist? I say good on them.
11:18, Cheers Nick. I’m sure those 18 people you fired feel the same.
yea – didn’t they just make like half their creative department redundant?
Nice, real nice.
