State Insurance launches ‘Break my Stride’ tv and radio campaign via Colenso BBDO, Auckland
CB Exclusive – State Insurance is launching a new TV and radio campaign this weekend produced by Colenso BBDO.
The campaign kicks off with a 90 second, single shot TV spot – one of the longest one-shot commercials in New Zealand’s advertising history – featuring a full cast of characters who find themselves in unfortunate situations. Singing along to an adapted version of the ’80’s hit song “Break My Stride” these State customers tell us how, in the face of adversity, State will keep them moving.
This campaign is an evolution of the ‘Love your stuff’ positioning established in 2010 with the “Favourite Things” campaign.
“Our customers want to have confidence their insurer will be there for them at claim time, helping to keep them moving. We’re proud of what we do at State and we hope people will enjoy our campaign,” says Mary-Jane Daly, Executive General Manager of State Insurance.
Says Nick Garrett, managing director of Colenso BBDO: “We wanted to grab the attention of both existing and potential State customers with an engaging campaign that will get the phones ringing. The musical direction and craft of both the TV and radio creative serves to create memorable advertising that delivers the message about State’s commitment to providing an efficient service”.
The campaign launches on TV this Sunday at 7.10pm with a roadblock on channels 1, 2, 3 and 4.

A cross between SKY’s que sera sera and the leaf blower one-shot ad?
First time I’ve ever seen a Colenso ad finished cheaply.
If you have nothing to say, sing it. If you really truly madly deeply have absofuckinglutely nothing to say… then sing it for 90 fucking seconds… I guess.
‘Old School’ you are so right. An executional gimmick does not make for a great ad… But if the agency has no idea in sight, then perhaps it might not be such a bad thing… NOT!
How does it cut down to a 30?
They must have trawled the internet for minutes to come up with that. Colenso’s is definitely better. Catchy little tune.

Guess State should be getting a refund for the concept fee at the very least. Shocking!
When you proudly name the clients like that with a dupe like this, aren’t you just naming and shaming them? “Hey world, these are the idiots that bought our superbly crafted recycled shit that AAMI did!”
your radio ad is driving me insane just stop please.
These ad’s are driving me crazy… They are terrible.
can anybody tell me where it was shot i had wondered if it was christchurch somewhere in the red zone.
Who is the guy who hops out of the car at the start?
This ad is incredibly insensitive to anybody who has been injured or knows somebody injured or killed in a car crash, house fire, etc. or who has been a victim of a burglary or home invasion – makes fun/light of all these things. State insurance made a big mistake with this one. Way to go by upsetting lots of people.
I can’t believe all these negative comments.Has no-one ever heard of black humour? I googled this to find if the ad was on u-tube as I thought it would appeal to my daughter in Australia,as it’s so typically kiwi.I’m a retired Scottish Librarian,so probably in the demographics to be offended, but I think it is one of the two best ads on telly, the other being the Toyota ad with that un-putdownable cat.Perhaps thet says something about me,but the point is ,I know what is being advertised,so they work!
