Esther Watkins launches new comedy production company Sunday Punch in Auckland, NZ
Sunday Punch is a new comedy production company made up of people who like to film things that make other people laugh.
Headed up by Esther Watkins, who after 7 years as Head of TV at DraftFCB and some 9 years at Saatchi’s has joined forces with thedownlowconcept so they can all find even more funny things to film. It’s awesome and choice. Everyone agrees with this. Even though everyone might not personally know it yet, if they search deep down within themselves they will reach this conclusion. Trust us.
But we’re not going it alone, that would be silly. Sunday Punch is proud to represent directing super-duo Rachel Guidera and Paul Freeman and directing super-Tongan Josh Thomson.
Plus, because comedy is more fun when there are more people to share it, Sunday Punch has invited some of our funniest friends to be part of our Writers’ Room. It’s a place where agency creatives can throw around scripts and ideas with comedy people like Jeremy Corbett, Jaquie Brown, Te Radar, Paul Ego, Urzilla Carlson and Jesse Griffin.

Bloody good dudes and girl they are too. Best of luck.
Gidday,
sounds like a great initiative, excellent line up of personnel also. I’m gona throw my hat, one of the many, into the ring, should any of my vast experience in stage/TV/film be of use. Tend to be regarded as an actor, however used to write for live TV show, NZs attempt at a Hey Hey its Saturday style show, was one half of early comedy duo, The Golden Holdens, we became Des 7 Les, did talkback radio on ZB & RadioLIVE etc, use to production manage the huge pregame entertainment gigs with mike Mizrahi, for the first couple of years of the Warriors, plus all maner of other work experience. I had 3 kids to feed cloth and nurture, as a bloody actor!
If you need extra craniums in the room, I am interested under whichever hat.
Cheers

Sounds great! Hope their comedy is better then some of the dry ones Ive seen so far on TV. Congrats Sunday punch!
That’s a brilliant assembly of talent, this sounds like a great move.
the writers room? get someone else to do your job. can you get them to write your script and then not let them pitch on it? seems like a conflict on multiple levels.
