Greg Grover returns in latest campaign for Nova Energy via Clemenger BBDO, Wellington
Continuing the Two Ronnies style of wordplay Nova Energy has launched a new campaign via Clemenger BBDO, Wellington that sees the return of Greg Grover trying to tell Kiwis about Nova’s “Great Value Energy”. But over the noise of their garden tools they don’t quite hear him properly.
Director Ric Cantor from Hungry Man, represented by Curious, brought this uniquely Nova spot to life.
Nova Energy Marketing Manager Michael O’Donnell explains: “A big part of communicating our brand is working with someone who understands where we’re coming from as a business. Providing value is our core principle and that’s what Clemenger BBDO has helped us communicate. That, in turn, delivers great value for us.”
Clemenger BBDO Executive Creative Director, Brigid Alkema believes the agency’s understanding has driven the creative direction: “It’s all about embracing what Nova Energy stands for. They’re not about sausage sizzles, or branded blankets for little baby penguins. They’re simply about value for money
“You’ve also got to applaud their bravery for establishing their brand based on humour, rather than a safe and familiar route,” she says.
The new campaign establishes Nova’s message as strongly as the first and captures the soul of a very Kiwi and down-to-earth energy company, focussed on delivering its customers great value energy.

Hi, Could you settle an argument between my wife and I?
In your current Nova ad, one of us thinks the man sunbathing says ,old spice is leathery and the other says, who’s face is leathery?
Your response to this would be appreciated.
We like the ad!
Cheers.
It’s face.
I would love to know the name of the actor playing the Nova man. He does his part so well.
is the man doing the lawns the same person as the nova man ?
I believe the actor is Aaron Cortesi. See cast of “Nancy Wake” character Marcel, 2/ic resistance leader.
Hi, Nova energy is cheap because they are fracking NZ for shale gas and using that to generate power while other companies work hard to produce renewable electricity. Todd Energy, nova’s parent company are the biggest frackers in NZ. See Climate Justice Taranaki for more details. While using humour as a public face, in reality nova provide cheap electricity from fracking the Kiwis backyard-Tikorangi to be exact.
Dave me and my x had same argument i reckon its. Whos face is leathery and she thinks old spice lol help us
Is it whos face or old spice???????????
Why do all the actors smell like old spice? My wife says it’s weird but I think it’s distracting. Help!

In the Nova ad currently showing it finishes with the woman actor pointing to her head which now has a scarf on it and saying what sounds like “danners ”. Can you please clarify why she says that and what does it mean. It just frustrates me every time I see the as as I can’t make sense of it. Thanks
