DB Breweries launches TV campaign for DB Export Beer Bottle Sand via Colenso BBDO
DB Breweries has launched a new TVC via Colenso BBDO Auckland, to accompany its DB Export ‘DB Export Beer Bottle Sand’ project.
The world is running out of sand. Sand is used in everything from construction to pharmaceuticals, and as a result two thirds of the world’s beaches are retreating. So DB Breweries and Colenso BBDO Auckland built a fleet of machines that turn empty bottles of DB Export into a sand substitute.
DB Export Beer Bottle Sand is then supplied to construction companies, manufacturers and anyone else who needs it, reducing the country’s dependence on beach-derived sand. Now, to save their beaches, New Zealanders just have to empty a bottle of DB Export. Drink DB Export. Save the entire world.

Why the lack of names on the credits list? Someone scared of being outed as the person that moved this idea from DDB to Colenso?
Yip exact same idea conceived at DDB, and taken by someone else to Colenso, where they’ve got it up with Export. I guess there’s some kudos for getting it made, but as an industry if we don’t value ideas and respect their provenance and ownership, clients certainly never will.
actually, they do that for all their work, go back and check.
1. This wasn’t an agency idea in the first place, it was an existing technology retrofitted to a brand.
2. It’s not as good as Brewtroleum (but will no doubt win awards).
3. If you have ideas for a living – have another one.
4. It’s not ‘yours’ until it’s made. Sad but important fact in this business.
Having ideas like this isn’t the hard part, getting them to happen (on a decent scale) is.
So mop up your tears didn’t-do-its
I’m with you Outsider. So many ideas these days seem like creatives just go on tech blogs, find a cool world/life saving technology then find some way to attach a brand to it. Then get all the credit.
Is anyone really convinced the world is running out of sand?
These types of things are getting boring now. The world is running out of oil, so we created oil. The world is running out of sand, so we created sand. The world is running out of fresh thinking, it seems.
Who ends up finally making an idea has no bearing on IP ownership people. Check your employment contracts – you’ll see any idea you have while employed by an agency is actually owned by them. The only reason DDB didn’t pursue Colenso on this one, is Omnicom stepped in and mediated, to avoid the embarrassing headlines!
@ Respect IP
No, that wasnt the reason, It was because DDBs lawyers advised that they wouldn’t win the case.
