After a decade Special Group founding partner Rob Jack announces departure from the agency
Creative partner Rob Jack (left) is leaving Special Group which he founded in 2007 with Tony Bradbourne and Heath Lowe.
Says Jack: “I’ve been working hard building up an agency for ten years, and have loved doing so. It’s given me huge enjoyment and satisfaction. But now it’s time to make a change. I am looking forward to working in a different way, and creating a different balance. I will be doing strategic consultancy, pitch support and concept generation on a freelance basis for organisations who need heavyweight advice and content without the permanent commitment of someone of my seniority.”
Jack worked on Special Group’s most awarded campaigns, like Orcon’s Iggy Pop, Smirnoff Pure Potential, Paspaley Pearls’ collaboration with Anna Funder, 2degrees ‘Play the Bridge’, the Molenberg Sandwich Shop and the ‘Most Creative Country In The World’ Axis Awards film.
Says Jack: “I’m really proud of what we have achieved at Special Group over the last 10 years. Growing a world class business from scratch has been amazing.”
Says Michael Redwood, managing partner, Special Group: “Rob has been a key part of Special Group’s success and growth. He’s a strategic thinker with real creative firepower. We admire his stance in choosing a different way to work, and send him off with huge thanks and best wishes.”
Jack will stay with Special Group until July 7th.

Well done Rob. Potential fully realised.
Well done Rob, you’re a legend!
After leaving M&C Saatchi Auckland it seemed criminal that no agency picked up Rob (or Tony when he came back from overseas).
When they started Special I have to admit that I was deeply sceptical it would succeed.
First of all, I hated the name as I thought it made them sound like a retail agency.
Secondly, it wasn’t the thing to do, especially without a major client onboard. I gave it a year at most.
But, I was wrong. They did all New Zealand proud.
It’s understandable that Rob has left Special Group. He deserves a change of focus to spend more time with his family and his beloved motorbikes.
Verdict: Well done, great work and am jealous of your success.
