OneChoice Life Insurance launches new ‘Silver Lining’ TV campaign via FCB New Zealand
OneChoice and FCB New Zealand have unveiled two new TVCs to launch their Life Insurance product to the Kiwi market. Titled, ‘Silver Lining’ the new campaign provocatively communicates OneChoice’s role in providing a brighter future for those who lose a loved one.
In a funeral setting, the two Silver Lining spots begin with the reading of a eulogy for someone who had thoughtfully arranged life insurance with OneChoice, prior to their passing. During the gushing memorial speech, the speaker explains the product benefits to the partner of the deceased who sits before them, revealing the financial security for their future. The benefactor’s expressions of relief and excitement become the focus before the spot comes to an end.
The new campaign focuses on the insight that Kiwi’s insure their houses, contents and cars but commonly forget to recognise their own value, which may be worth millions of dollars to family members after they are gone. The playful approach to a sensitive issue attracts the attention of New Zealanders and makes it a difficult message to ignore.
Says Tony Clewett, executive creative director, FCB: “We knew that by injecting a small smile into what’s often an incredibly stressful time, that we’d strike a chord with our audience. It’s a fine line to ‘creatively’ tread, but we feel we’ve reflected that well.”
Says Simon Hovell, chief marketing officer, OneChoice: “Our brief was very succinct— the creative had to be quirky to reflect our tone of voice, using strong talent to distinguish itself in the market. The result was two TVC’s that are a balance of humour in different settings, whilst showcasing the importance of having a quality life insurance product.”
As well as TV, the integrated campaign will run across radio, print and digital platforms, encouraging people to get their life insurance sorted to protect the future of their loved ones.

I watch TV for the ads, but this one, sorry… I have to mute it. Just sayin’.
I don’t know where to start. The shit story? the supers for 45 seconds?
FCB what the hell are you playing at? After that awesome NZ post ad last week too.
the TV ads are most annoying. they insult our hearing and intelligence . dont treat all people as money grabbing or sports fanatics.most of us turn the volume down on loud aggressive sports commentators. so why would we listen to this drivel.
Yes it is just drivel and insulting. Give these buffoons a minus zero rating.
No… I know that that’s what you are JohnD, but what am I?
Crass, insensitive, the worst kind of ad. A total commercial failure so tasteless that I would never consider purchasing the product.
Employ some staff with talent who know how to sell.
They are utterly offensive to anyone who’s had a bereavement. The delighted reaction of the widowed person to the news is beyond crass.
The new one is set in a baby shower…one has the impression that the mother to be is hoping for someone to die, as an excited, pleased look appears on her face. I wonder if she’s hoping that the baby will die, as the more the person explains how much is to be made from this insurance, the more she strokes the bump. Pass the bucket.
the baby shower ad is definitely an exercise in cringe! whoever thought up this commercial must be female, 15 years old and have absolutely no idea what a baby shower actually entails!
And what’s with the tiara around the young woman’s head?? don’t understand the significance in that one!
Everytime I see this ad I physically have to change the channel as I find myself screaming at the television….”ENOUGH!!!!”
Dumb pointless commercial.
I honestly can’t stand these Two Ads, They are the only Ads where I have to sprint to the Remote to Mute it. This is one of the most Insensitive and Annoying Adverts I have ever seen, I have recently been dealing with a major loss in my Family and this Ad Makes me so Angry when ever it is on. Who on Earth talks like that at a Funeral!?? If I was attending a Funeral and someone spoke like that I would call the Hospital and say “I need an Ambulance, I’m at a Funeral and someone is having a Mental Breakdown” I will honestly say that these Ads are among my Top 5 Worst Ads of all Time, And coming from me who has seen thousands of them on TV and online…..That’s saying alot.
When my husband died of cancer, it wouldn’t have made me happy and think that it was worth it if I’d found that he’d had this and I was now a millionairess 10 x over. How cruel and heartless are these people ?
I’m sorry about your loss. I have recently suffered loss and have been sitting though these horrible annoying ads throughout the last 2 years. Seriously someone needs to make Official Complaints here
These ads are insensitive, inappropriate, and downright insulting.
You forgot sick, heartless and vile.
These ads are so annoying I actually googled for a forum to express my disgust.. I have to mute them. I am in my 70s but I would never ever consider this company because of their inane tasteless advertising. Please just stop them.
I hate this ad and dont believe a word. No insurance is that simple!!!
The latest one is the worst. It’e even sicker than the other two.
Everyone seems to despise these disgusting ads, why keep playing them ?
Quite agree
Two ads – Betsy Boo and man in tutu. Both are in very poor taste!!
So bad I HAVE to mute them. They bombard the senses every 15 minutes of every day!!
Go back to the drawing board.
There are no words for how much I hate these stupid ads. Embarrassed for everyone involved.
This is a despicable insensitive advertisement in times of Covid19 please remove it from our screen Immediately.
you guys need to go back to play school when you pass try again . I am old but I would never buy your products
love hurts
Please stop subjecting us to these ads,,I am tired of changing channels every time one of your sick ads come on. Perhaps you can just cut your losses on such a fail. I keep thinking… Is this a test on our sanity or your???
MAKE IT STOP!!! HATE ALL OF YOUR STUPID HEADACHE INDUCING ADVERTISEMENTS 😡😡😡
WTF ….. are u talking to a toddler or lover ….?
BETSY BOO ? Go back to the drawing board for heavens sake!
The first two were JUST bearable but this last one with BETSY BOO! My gosh it is disgusting. It certainly puts me off buying your insurance. I have to mute it. Makes me wonder if it is school children making these ads. For anyone of a certain age and/or ill, it is a nightmare having these ads on TV all the time. GROW UP!!!!
Man in Tutu Ads
Putting a man dressed in the Tutu and then to be belittled by other men using shameful, derogative language to bully him to make him and make him feel less than a man. Very inappropriate to see this happening in an age where bullying is strive and suicide figures are climbing. This kind of message needs to be stamped out, once and for all. What is the true message here? Please stop, this is not funny, it is cringeworthy to see for all generations. Sorry, this does not encourage me to want to buy your product.
They dont seem to realize they are alienating people by continually bombarding them with this insensitive garbage.
MAKE THEM STOP!! I would never buy this product solely because the ad is so utterly puerile. Really?? NZers are better than this…and smarter.
God I hate these ads. I even change the channel when they come on. Condescending crap.
These are totally disgusting, insensitive ads. I would never go to this Company for insurance ever.
I actually switch the tv off every time one of these ads comes on. The voiceover for the ‘baby shower’ is unbearable. Only a lunatic would buy anything from a Company that would commission such low quality, poor taste content.
Have you not read any of the previous comments?!
And yet these ads continue to be aired thousands of times a day.
It is harassment. so hopefully the ‘Broadcasting Standards Authority’ might be able to do something.
Genuinely some of the worst advertisements I have even seen, automatic channel change.
As a senior person verging on the 10 x 8 milestone, I find these advertisements, as others have commented “cringe-making! Worse – they are condescending, present people as gormless idiots, demeaning and infuriating! I would like to know how the actors consented to appear in such a misrepresentation of people, especially the elderly. Seem that they must have been paid well. Not an excuse though!
All of these ads selling this ‘insurance’ are horrible. I wonder if Consumer NZ are going to take a stand because apart from the obvious bad taste, I’m pretty sure they aren’t actually good value either.
As if going though a couple of deaths in the family 2016 – 2018 was bad enough I have had to sit though this pure, cancerous, insensitive, irritating filth throughout a global pandemic. Each and every Ad that these @%^@s have put out from they annoying catlady to the ridiculous baby shower to the annoying green man. I recommend anybody looking for life insurance to avoid them at all cost.
OneChoice = Greenstone Financial Services = an Australian owned company with Australia based directors. Maybe this sort of work plays better over there.
This and the man in green ensure I would Never invest in this insurance.
It belittling and conniving to us all
I believe these adds are in breach of the privacy act.People shopping and that weird green dressed idot appears. Also hiding in the back seat of a car this is totally un exceptible. I would never consider buying into Insurance with adverts like this.
The current crop of One Choice ads are appalling. The front man in the green velvet (yech) tracksuit couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag. Who is responsible for casting such dross as talent??? Fire them!!!
The man in the green suit is such a cringe, I never watch the adds now as they are disgusting.
The worst ads of all time. If anyone of these people came into your life in these situations they advertise, you wouldn’t listen to any of them and most likely give them the bash and tell them to f.. off before you need insurance.
Absolutely degrading. Get rid of these pathetic ads
Actor in green suit ,is this guy trying to be DROP DEAD FRED from movie ? The couple are contructing a piece of flat pack furniture, budget ! I dont think the couple would be able to afford a ” one choice ” two million dollar funeral policy . So why mention two million dollars in the add ? maybe one choice policies are loto tickets . Maybe next crap “one choice” add has man in green suit walking a corgi dog .
In my humble opinion, the adverts with the man dressed in green are beyond stupid. He comes across as a brash, insensitive, condescending know-it-all. Thank goodness for my TV remote!! In any case, life insurance is generally a ripoff; what insurance firms don’t tell you is that their premiums escalate exponentially, way beyond the inflation rate, so that eventually only the wealthy can afford to pay. Hence a large number of clients cancel their policies, while the company gets to keep all of the already paid premiums. As a test I recently ‘applied’ for life insurance (I won’t mention the company’s name for legal reasons), just so that I could ask them for data on the rates of their recent premium increases, and was told “we don’t keep that kind of information”. LOL. These companies spend huge sums on market research and revising their premium rates, and still have more than enough to pay their menagerie of agents, and of course all of those expensive TV adverts. Back in the 1980s I wrote software for a medical insurance company, and hence got to know their business model intimately, and it looks like not much has changed. Make no mistake, insurance companies are not here to help their clients, but to maximize their profits. No offence, but anybody who believes otherwise is naive. So at the very least, perform your own due diligence and make a more informed decision. Caveat emptor!
These ads are an absolute disgrace and have no place on TV or anywhere else. Hiding in a shower while a woman looks at her pregnancy test – you’d be jailed for that in normal society. Absolutely shameful.
Omg lighten up people if everything was serious you would still complain …I’m sorry but I love the guy n green …I think he’s funny and just makes things not so dam serious …get a sense of humour people !!!!!
Lmao Julie…. You are the only person I know who likes those ads….. Obviously they speak volumes to stupidity:)
Absolutely the worst ad campaign ever. Crass demeaning, puerile, insensitive . I would not buy this insurance as anyone who thought this was a good idea is out of touch with reality.
Couldn’t agree more. Cringe and mute every time I see them. Loathsome
