Colenso BBDO managing director Scott Coldham set to take on global role with tech start-up
After 15 years with Colenso BBDO, five as its managing director, Scott Coldham has decided to leave the agency to take on a new set of opportunities as chief marketing officer with NZ technology company Whip Around and local menswear brand Asuwere.
Coldham (above centre) has led Colenso BBDO since 2015 and, together with chief creative officer Levi Slavin (above left) and creative chairman Nick Worthington (above right), has helped build it into one of the world’s most successful creative companies.
Colenso BBDO has consistently been ranked in the world’s top ten agencies and is currently the Cannes Agency of the Decade for the Pacific region, the Cannes #10 Agency of the Decade globally, Campaign Brief’s NZ Agency of the Decade (for the second decade in a row) and holds a myriad of local and regional titles to boot.
Nick Worthington said that Coldham has become a dynamic and respected leader who very much grew up in the business.
“Scott joined Colenso as an Account Manager in 2006 and learned from some of the best in the business, ultimately becoming our Managing Director in 2015. He has an incredible intellect and a passion for innovation, which has been critical in the transformation of our culture and capability here in Auckland.
“We’ve always held a view that we ‘want to be the best in the world, from the bottom of the world’ and to do that, we have to encourage global perspectives and opportunities.
“Like all our best and brightest, Scott has an opportunity to learn and grow in different fields and markets. We wish him well and are genuinely excited for him,” he said.
Clemenger Group NZ chairman Jim Gall said that Coldham had been a great champion of the work and his colleagues: “We thank Scott for his significant contribution to our business and we wish him every success as he takes on the world with his new ventures.”
Gall added that Colenso BBDO had exceptional and diverse senior leadership in place across the agency’s executive and was excited to welcome new Chief Strategy Officer Rob Campbell from the UK in March.
“I am confident that our experienced Executive Leadership Team of Levi Slavin, Piers Bebbington, Dan Wright, Maria Devereux, Paul Courtney, Angie Watson, Richard Schloeffel and Creative Chairman Nick Worthington will continue to steward the business successfully, and ensure our clients’ businesses and brands are our absolute priority,” he said.
Clemenger Group is undertaking a global search to replace Coldham, who will depart at the end of April.

Angie Watson. Angie? ANGIE. Did anyone check this with Ange?
Yes she definitely prefers Angie.
As above
Congrats on your news Scott and a truly wonderful innings at a very special place. Your impact has been immense and of course you will be missed. Loved working with you, then watching from afar all you and the teams success. Wishing you well on the next journey and can’t wait to hear more. Hats off buddy.

Definitely a changing of the guard at Colenso.
Sure you’ll smash the new role Scott (which, after reading this article I still have no idea what it actually is) as you did with everything in the last decade and a half atop College Hill
No comment from the MD himself? What does that say?
Does anyone know/want to talk about what’s going on at Clemenger?
Scott left off of his own volition, Chris Howatson in AUS the same. Locally, 99’s apparently the hardest hit agency and basically imploded (both MD and ECD left) after multiple large client losses.
I know big holding companies are doing it harder vs the indies, but Clems seem to be doing it harder than most, if not all.
Surely, this can’t be a coincidence?
This is my cousin and I do prefer green eggs and ham. I do prefer them Sam I Am.
