Vodafone NZ says hello to ‘One Awesome Summer’ in new campaign via DDB Group Aotearoa
DDB Group Aotearoa and Vodafone, soon to be One New Zealand, have launched ‘One Awesome Summer’ – the campaign to catapult us into a long-awaited summer season.
This campaign teases what lies ahead over the warmer months and nods towards the telco’s move to One New Zealand – painting a picture of an electric welcome to summer.
Matty Burton, group chief creative officer at DDB Group says the campaign lends itself to the unrestrained and carefree way in which Kiwi’s will experience summer this year after a few tricky years being locked down: “This is the first summer in quite a while where everything is open, we can move about freely and we have no restrictions. Just like a crowd clamouring for one more song, we wanted the campaign to translate into that excitement – hyping up an awesome summer to remember.
“The campaign alludes to both the big and small moments that make up an unforgettable summer. From one huge roadie or one epic night, it’s all about a season that is one for the gram, one for the crew and ultimately, one for the ages.”
Says Katherine Kazalbash, marketing COE lead at Vodafone NZ: “From gigs to festivals, international sport, new year’s parties plus so much more, we know the countdown is on to one awesome summer.
“While we continue to invest in simpler, better products, services and in our network, we’re helping make Aotearoa even more awesome. As we move towards One New Zealand, we’re ready for a lot of fun this summer, being there every step of the way.”
The campaign is now live across TV, cinema, outdoor, digital/web, social media, radio, EDM.

See what they’ve done there….
Hype tape in the meeting?
One shot
big audacious work they promised – it did they peak with the disappearing letters? Hope the egos were still parked and stuff.
Just like the name this is safe/standard/expected/usual. Track gives it a bit of energy, their summer media weights will ensure it works, but it certainly ain’t memorable. No-one’s going to be talking about the cool Voda ad this summer.
One opportunity
This is what you get when you launch a brand, revert to the old brand but still need to include the new brand I guess.
With all the people in charge surely someone has to own this right? I guess not.
The Production Company name is missing.

Is it too late to bring back Vodafone?
It’s snazzy retail at it’s best.
Hello 2006 free to air channel promo.
Probably a stepping stone before they come out with something bigger and bolder.
I like it, energetic, great track and non-offensive. It’ll work, that’s for sure.
Expecting big things next year though.
Feels like a stepping stone piece of work. Fine for what it is. What will come next is the big question.
Define ‘work’
Really Vodafone! What does one for the gram mean. Who are you trying to reach with that one
