Sweetshop director Edward Berger’s feature ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ wins four Oscars

The gold continued to roll in for Sweetshop director Edward Berger as his Netflix drama, All Quiet on the Western Front took out four of the nine nominations at this year’s Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California last night.

The film was awarded Best International Feature, Best Cinematography, Best Sound and Best Production Design. While accepting the award Berger made special mention of the lead actor Felix Kammerer: “This was your first movie, and you carried us on your shoulders. Without you, none of us would be here.”

After coming off stage, golden statue in hand, Berger spoke to reporters about feeling like an outsider in Hollywood: “I hope this gives me and a few others, a bit of confidence to say, lets just do it!”

Says Paul Prince, executive chairman and founding partner, Sweetshop: “Sending a huge congratulations to Edward on behalf of everyone here at Sweetshop, we couldn’t be prouder of what he and his crew have achieved. Outstanding achievement.”

Berger is currently working on ‘Conclave’, which boasts a stellar cast of Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini , John Lithgow and Lucian Msamati, and is set to direct and produce ‘Helltown’ a new Amazon series produced by Robert Downey Jr.

Says Kate Roydhouse, EP, Sweetshop: “We have to say something, he’s just won 4 Oscars, that’s beyond amazing!”

Ben Dailey, EP, Sweetshop: “Enough said!”

The pair says: “Congratulations Edward, it’s so well deserved and…. well, what Paul said.”

The film was also awarded seven wins at the BAFTAS earlier this year including Best Picture with Berger himself taking out the coveted Best Director.
