Barfoot & Thompson celebrates 100 years in business with new brand work via Big

Barfoot & Thompson has launched its first major brand TV campaign developed by Big Communications, to coincide with the company’s 100thanniversary.

Says Caroline Dobby, head of brand, Barfoot & Thompson: “For a New Zealand company to achieve one hundred years in business is quite an achievement. The fact the company is still owned and managed by the two original families is particularly special. ‘Tree’ marks the milestone in a manner that’s typical of Barfoot & Thompson. This is not sixty seconds about the company, but rather a tribute to the generations of customers that have made it all possible.”

Says Ant Salmon, managing director of Big: “The ad uses trees as a metaphor for growth and development, and captures a sense of timelessness and continuity. We see new beginnings, the passing of time, the joy of being young and old; we feel a sense of wellbeing and security.”

The script was also adapted into Mandarin.

Says Stephanie Wang, Chinese marketing specialist at Barfoot & Thompson: “It was important that we didn’t just translate the English script. We have a significant number of Chinese salespeople and Chinese customers and they will know that this version has been written specifically for a Chinese audience. That was important to us.”

The 60 sec ad will be supported by a suite of 15 sec digital videos, each highlighting a particular strength of Barfoot & Thompson.
