LBB & Friends are back on the beach for Cannes 2020 – and LBB members from OZ/NZ are invited

The LBB & Friends Beach ~ co-sponsored by Bestads & Campaign Brief ~ is the original beach club house of the Cannes Lions. In 2020 we will celebrate our 11th year on La Croisette, as the very first of the privatised beaches during the festival.

This year our guests will continue to have access to the beach and its restaurant and bar, as well as a schedule of events that includes panels and daily happy hours.

Each day, thousands of advertising leaders from around the world and across all sectors of this ever-expanding industry come together on the LBB Beach. It’s a place to get together with existing clients, schedule meetings with potential new ones and just bump into any number of new contacts. Or – have a meal, a drink, a dip, and a laugh. It can be your home base in Cannes, or a place you pop in and out of.

The LBB Beach has a very relaxed and social atmosphere but everyone is there to make contacts and do business.

The good news is that LBB member agencies and production companies in Australia and New Zealand will once again enjoy Access All Areas. Silver members receive five wristbands for the week, Bronze members receive three.

We couldn’t make this happen without the support of our sponsors. The sponsors are your hosts on the beach, so make sure you get to know who they are and what they do. We’ll be introducing you to them in the coming months. This year, they include: ARRI Rental / CHEAT / Chesterfield Group / Chrome / ClearChannel / CRAFT WW / Electric Glue / The Good Film Company / London International Awards / MCA / MullenLoweGroup / Peach / Readyto Shoot / Simian / thenetworkone.

The full programme of events will be available in the spring and invitations will go out in May and June.

** So, how can you wrangle an invitation to the LBB & Friends Beach in 2020?

– Membership has its privileges! If your company is a member of LBB and you have a page, you can add a certain number of names to the guest list. Find details on membership by contacting Lynchy at michael@campaignbrief.com.

– Become a sponsor of the Beach. Make our beach your beach and have your own Cannes meeting room. It’s a brilliant way to ‘do’ Cannes and to get a lot of promotion for a very low cost.

– Register your interest in the beach here. We’ll be in touch to discuss how you and your team can access this beach in Cannes.

What’s the big idea?

The idea for the beach began years ago. At that time, the beaches were not hired out and most of the people we met said that in all the years that they had been attending the Lions, they had never been in the Med! This was a time before the Gutter Bar; a time when only Print & Poster and Television were celebrated with award shows; back when you could get a table at the Colombe D’Or as a walk in; and ‘Millennials’ weren’t even a thing. Apart from the the opening gala, the beaches were all closed at night.

It seemed a shame to bring thousands of people to Cannes for this festival and not make use of the very resource that had brought fame and fortune to Cannes in the first place – the beach! As we were having this realisation, we were also sprinting up and down La Croisette in our ‘non-beach attire’ from screening to cancelled meetings. We just weren’t meeting up with the people we wanted and needed to see.

Frankly, we would have given our eye teeth for a beach lounger to just sit on. If we could then lean over to top up our Badoit and strike up a conversation with a potential client, well, that would have been golden. So, we decided to make that place where everyone could meet, stop in and just set up camp.

It’s the physical embodiment of LBBOnline; a community where Adland can get together to share ideas and forge new partnerships.

Every year gets bigger and better. Almost 1,000 people came down to the beach every day in 2018, with people queuing to collect their wristbands all day long.

We (LBB & our awesome co-hosts) really look forward to seeing you all out there this year. You can’t miss us – we’re opposite the Miramar and you’ll see our (friendly) heavies on the door.
