When you’re dreaming about shredding fresh powder and vibrant après ski, bombing down single trail on the mountain bike, or bungee jumping into ice cool water, Queenstown has got to be the destination on top of everyone’s list.
Two Bearded Men and Allan Hardy embarked on a two year project to showcase the four distinct seasons in Destination Queenstown’s brand relaunch as the Home of Adventure.
Says Allan Hardy ACS, director and DOP: “This was an epic project and commitment taking over two years to capture Queenstown’s most unique activities and its phenomenal landscape.
“Filming in Queenstown is like shooting in a dream, everywhere you turn you’re just wanting to pick up the camera and shoot.”
Toby Crawford, Two Bearded Men EP said: “Bringing Allan over to help us showcase Queenstown as the home of adventure was a no brainer. Allan’s innate understanding of how to capture high energy action scenes fit perfectly with our action packed script, and his Aussie roots meant we were able to capture a fresh perspective on the beauty and soul of this place.”
Two Bearded Men work with a range of directors from all over Australasia, and are a preferred production facilitator for many international productions travelling to New Zealand.
Says Hardy: “Working with Two Bearded Men on this project was unreal. Tim and Toby’s intimate understanding of filming in New Zealand is vast. I certainly learned a lot.
“We took another small but multi-skilled crew approach to this project. Even though it was a small group, we still covered everything from helicopter filming systems, hard mounting, POV, underwater and drones to capture all of Queenstown’s most adventurous locations. We have so much experience in all of these filming techniques so it was cool to use them all in one commercial.
“Queenstown has so much to offer from the wild nightlife, remote mountain adventures, hiking, luging and river rides. It’s just a bloody amazing thrill to even film it.”
Says Tim Pierce, director, Two Bearded Men: “We love working with directors who are hands on in post production and Allan is no exception. Allans eye for detail transitions seamlessly from behind the camera, to putting the finishing touches on in the edit suite.”
“I definitely know where I’m taking my family on our next overseas adventure, hopefully that’s soon” said Hardy. “I just don’t know if I’ll be allowed to take my camera.”
