TRB announces Student ORCA finalists for 2022

TRB Student ORCA finalists have today been announced.

Each year TRB’s Outstanding Radio Creative Awards is expanded to a student competition. In 2022, students from AUT University and Media Design School were given a live brief to create an audio campaign for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

Participants were tasked with creating a campaign that either encouraged donations or drove youth audiences to engage with COVID-19 wellness tips.

2022 Student ORCA judges were Rory McKechnie (DDB), Freddie Coltart (DDB), Matt Williams (DDB), Hadleigh Sinclair (Colenso BBDO) and Hayley Marks (FCB).

The five finalists are:

AUT University:

Never Have I Ever: Hannah Nguyen and Louis O’Brien

News Update: Amie Kaufman and Holly Grant

Let’s FART together: Maclean Winiata and Tegan Cooke

Media Design School:

All You Saw: Harry Pfiszter and Letitia Mackenzie

Main Character Energy: Kevin Ng

Says Renee Fox, communications and marketing specialist, Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand: “We were incredibly impressed by the calibre of responses to our brief. It was an honour to have so many talented people working on and thinking about some of the mahi we do here at the Mental Health Foundation.

“Narrowing down the finalists was no easy feat, all responses were creative; some entertaining, others thought-provoking, and all had such thought and consideration put into them.

“Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou – for all the hard yards, and for allowing us to be part of your student journey!”

The winning campaign will air across commercial radio stations later in the year.

ORCA and Student ORCA winners will be announced on Thursday August 25th.
