Asahi Beverages appoints The Monkeys Aotearoa as new agency of record
Asahi New Zealand has appointed The Monkeys Aotearoa, part of Accenture Song, as its creative and strategic agency of record.
Following a competitive pitch process, The Monkeys Aotearoa will handle all brand and marcomms activity for Asahi’s alcohol brands locally.
Asahi Beverages is a leading beverage company in New Zealand and boasts a strong portfolio of established household brands and innovative, new-to-market products including Long White, Boundary Road Brewery, Woodstock, Peroni and Asahi Beer.
Says Oliver Downs, general manager marketing, Asahi: “We’ve been on the hunt for a new breed of agency partner to help us deliver on our bold ambitions, and we really liked what we saw from The Monkeys team.
“They are on a mission to help brands be genuinely purpose led and that is important for Asahi with our diverse portfolio of brands. We couldn’t be more excited to start turbo charging that mission together.”
Says Damon Stapleton, chief creative officer, The Monkeys Aotearoa: “It is really a great day when you are trusted with the responsibility of looking after an awesome global brand like Asahi. But more than that, all the other iconic brands that sit within the Asahi portfolio. We are really looking forward to doing great work with Ollie and the crew.”

Appears that Mayoral Drive have dropped the ball yet again
Full honesty and sincerity here. Condolences to the Monkeys team.
The PR photo is the most creative thing Asahi has done in 5 years. Nice one!
Fair point
Happy to kick that ball into touch.
Funny how condolences are offered even though many very prominent agencies were trying to win the business.
That’s because they haven’t all had the misfortune of working on that account with the current regime. The brands are awesome… but condolences got it right… Take care wee monkeys….watch your flank… and your pockets…
Love an honest comment. They’re few and far between.
So true
In a twist of irony, ‘The Monkeys’, have chosen a great ape for their press release – a curious choice indeed. Had they tuned in to ‘Planet Earth’, they might have learned the crucial difference between monkeys and apes. A small detail, perhaps, but in the world of nature, accuracy is everything. It seems even the brightest minds have something to learn from the natural world.
just wanted to let you know this is dry and irrelevant. Good try buddy.
I’ve worked on newly won clients that come in with a bad reputation, I’ve also worked on other clients that felt awful in our agency who left us. And in both scenarios I’ve seen those ‘bad’ clients turn into great clients. Resets work. Fresh chemistry. Lessons learnt. New team. Striving for better.
Nobody cares.
