Kat Day joins MBM’s creative and production studio Breakout Room as general manager

Creative and production studio Breakout Room has hired Kat Day as its new general manager, announced today by parent company MBM.

In her new role, Day will lead a growing team of creatives, strategists, producers and designers across both Auckland and Wellington, creating and producing AV content, events, activations and PR campaigns for clients including Tip Top, Z Energy, KiwiRail, The Griffin’s Food Company and Whittaker’s.

Hailing from the UK, with 20 years of experience in the industry, Day is adept at devising and producing content-led creative campaigns that drive awareness, increase engagement and win awards.

Most recently, Day held the role of creative lead PR at Special New Zealand, where she was responsible for building creative campaigns for Special PR clients including Tourism NZ, DB Breweries, and KFC as well as adding PR firepower to group-wide clients including Kiwibank, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Wellington City Mission.

Prior to Special, Day was group business director at Mango (DDB Group), where she led three account teams, delivering campaigns for clients including Nestlé, Lion and Booking.com.

Before moving to New Zealand in 2019, Day worked at the most awarded mid-sized creative agency in the UK, Taylor Herring, for more than 10 years.

Says Day: “I am so excited to be joining Breakout Room. The team is a hugely talented bunch of storytellers and makers, with an enviable reputation for delivering thoughtful content that is the perfect blend of concept and craft. I can’t wait to get started!”

Deb Brown, head of business development says Day’s background in PR adds a new string to Breakout Room’s bow: “We are thrilled to have Kat leading the team. She has hit the ground running in 2024 and made an immediate impact. Kat has an incredible creative brain, really understands influence and the power of earned attention, and is just a genuinely lovely human.”
