Two ideas from MDS’ Creative Advertising Programme win D&AD New Blood Pencils
Media Design School Creative Advertising programme student teams Willow Whitham and Stasia Edmeades and Reece O’Gorman and James Sandham have each won a D&AD New Blood Pencil in this year’s D&AD New Blood Awards.
Says Kate Humphries, programme director: “The D&AD New Blood Awards celebrate emerging creative talent from all across the globe by giving them the opportunity to work on industry-set briefs. For the past five years our Creative Advertising programme at Media Design School has kicked off each year by winning D&AD New Blood Pencils, and we couldn’t be more delighted to be picking up two more again this year.
“So, huge congratulations to both our 2024 creative team of Willow Whitham and Stasia Edmeades for winning their D&AD pencil for an idea they developed for the Durex Open brief called Woodstock Rewind; and to Reece O’Gorman and James Sandham, who continue their 2023 winning streak with an idea they developed for Persil’s Dirt is Good brief which, rather aptly, is called Winning Streak.
“The fact that one of our teams could win a prestigious D&AD Pencil in a global industry competition on their very first advertising brief for work developed in their first 4 weeks at AdSchool (whilst competing against Northern Hemisphere students who’d been working on the briefs since October the previous year) deserves a round of raucous cheers.
“As for our 2023 team who quickly developed their idea in a matter of days late last year so it could be included in their end of year portfolio, we couldn’t be prouder.
“A huge thank you for all the great feedback that went into developing the ideas to our Industry Fellow, Andy Blood, as well as AdSchool’s part-time tutors Greg Wylie and Lorenz Perry. And to our 2023 Industry Panel and Mentors we are, as ever, in your debt for all your invaluable feedback on Reece and James’s Winning Streak.”
The Pencil level each team has won will be revealed live at the New Blood Ceremony on Thursday 4 July.

Well done again, lads! You keep proving you boys are special. Massive achievement for the lasses too – solid future ahead I reckon.
But did those lads win a D&AD pencil for their first idea? Let’s celebrate both equally. And lasses?? Dave Trott stop trolling.
You guys are killing it! Keep it going special boys! Big grats to the MDS team as well! Exciting!
