Kiwi expat Kirsten Rutherford departs TBWA\Chiat\Day, LA after 11 years for Lead Creative role at DoorDash
Kiwi expat Kirsten Rutherford has departed her role as Executive Creative Director at TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles after 11 years, announcing on LinkedIn that she is joining DoorDash to lead creative.
Rutherford’s career began in New Zealand at FCB, where her work on a campaign to reduce stigma around mental illness earned United Nations recognition for creating a ‘sea change of public opinion’. She then moved to London, developing the AR app Streetmuseum for the Museum of London – one of the world’s most awarded apps at the time.
After stints at Wieden+Kennedy on accounts including Honda, Fondazione Prada and Tesco, Rutherford relocated to California, leading campaigns for Target, Tillamook, and Starbucks at 72&Sunny before joining TBWA\Chiat\Day. At Chiat, she led work for brands including Southwest Airlines, Viking Cruises, Persil and Intuit QuickBooks, and later became Global ECD on Expedia in 2019, travelling the globe before returning to Chiat as ECD to lead accounts such as Discover, Sephora, Instacart and Schwan’s—including Instacart’s first Super Bowl experience.
Rutherford’s work has consistently combined creativity with purpose. Her Gatorade campaign Sisters in Sweat won a Grand Clio for social good, while pro bono work for Make-A-Wish in 2019 generated $85 million in earned media. CreativePool named her one of the world’s top 100 creative leaders in 2023.
