PHD Aotearoa appoints Sam Sherson as Chief Technology Officer

PHD New Zealand has appointed Sam Sherson as Chief Technology Officer, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to delivering innovative, data-driven solutions for clients.

 

Reporting to CEO Abby Parkin, Sherson commenced in the newly created role on 20 January 2026. He will be responsible for driving the agency’s technical innovation, strengthening client relationships, and building strategic partnerships with key external stakeholders across Aotearoa.

In his role, Sherson will lead the integration of PHD’s data, analytics and technology capabilities to deliver advanced client solutions, provide strategic technology advisory, and identify emerging technologies and partners to future-proof the agency’s offering.

Sherson brings more than 20 years’ experience across New Zealand and the UK, spanning digital marketing, data analytics, media strategy and technology innovation. He has held senior leadership roles at Tracksuit, Overdose Digital, Unruly/Nexxen and The Guardian, and has founded his own consulting and SaaS ventures supporting both commercial and not-for-profit organisations.

Parkin said the appointment marks a significant step in the agency’s evolution: “Sam’s appointment marks a strategic milestone for PHD NZ. Sherson is a multi-award-winning leader, with accolades including the NZ Hi-Tech Awards, Google Premier Partner Awards (APAC), and CAANZ Media Awards. He has also contributed to key industry initiatives, including the UK premium publisher collective Ozone, and is a regular speaker at industry events.

His appointment will accelerate PHD New Zealand’s data and technology capabilities, enabling greater integration of technology and creativity to deliver measurable business outcomes for clients.
