You won’t see this woman again unless someone else has been hurt by drug driving ~ Clemenger BBDO Wellington launches new campaign for NZTA
New Zealand Transport Agency has launched a new project via Clemenger BBDO Wellington, for New Zealanders who have experienced the harm of drug driving.
Unsaid is a project funded by the New Zealand Transport Agency and fronted by Ashleigh: a brave young woman who has experienced drug driving harm in her own family. She lost her cousin. He died in a drug driving crash in 2014. He was only 37.
Ashleigh wants to know if she’s alone in her loss.
Right across New Zealand, people are being hurt and killed in road crashes because of drug driving. It’s not just something that happens in the far-off dark corners of our society. It’s happening to our friends, whānau, mates, teammates and colleagues.
But no one is talking about it.
Crashes involving drug driving often don’t make the news. It’s not often known at the time of the crash that drugs may have been involved. And, what’s more, drug driving is difficult to talk about for New Zealanders; particularly for those who have lost a loved one who took drugs before driving. Grieving families are often split over whether to talk about it. Afraid of being judged or told to be quiet, many remain silent.
But many also want their stories told.
Like Ashleigh, they know these stories are too important to be left unsaid. They believe if we talk about drug driving harm, we can learn from it and ultimately stop more lives from being lost and more families from being affected.
Project ‘Unsaid’ is offering New Zealanders who have experienced the harm of drug driving a safe and respectful way to share their own stories. They don’t have to front the story or even use their own names, they can simply share their lived experience. Ashleigh will then tell every single story she receives, in rain, hail or 100kph winds.
If there aren’t any stories or if the stories stop, so will the project.
If you’ve lost someone to drug driving or know someone who has, message the Unsaid Facebook or Instagram page and Ashleigh make your unsaid story heard.

A good campaign & so sad it is needed. My question is will more New Zealanders ensure there is no referendum for legalising marijuana. It can cause schizophrenia in some people, holes in the brain, it gives me migraines if smelling it just as a passive passerby, it will be dreadful for our road toll. Why have a referendum for something that should never happen in the first place.
So right now it’s illegal, doesn’t mean people aren’t harmed by it right?
Look at statistics of countries where it’s legal. Fewer users and less harm.
Carrots give me migraine
It gives you migraines just smelling it,what planet are you from.I can see the point of the advert but I think it is misplaced and alcohol should be the one they attack first.Just think about it next time you have your nightly drink;I am a tee totaller and I only smoke dope once in a blue moon and do not use other drugs.I used to smoke a lot but still have an IQ over 140 used to be 148 when I was 18 sure has killed a lot of my brain cells and I am nearly 70
There’s little to no evidence to support your claims around schizophrenia and holes in the brain. Can I suggest that you check this link out. Findings from the Dunedin and Christchurch longitudinal research are internationally recognised.so rather than being influenced by anecdotal evidence I liked to be influenced by scientific evidence much like our current situation around covid-19as opposed to those leaders and countries who have ignored the scientific evidence.

J = Joint
Nice use of Marker Felt – the thinking man’s Comic Sans.
Lol.
Mrrrnammaheeeeey
A highly necessary promotion. It was required to be publicised.
To get the road toll down why don’t we have roadside drug testing. Same as for drunk driving.
Dirk
Roadside drug testing for Cannabis gives no indication of impairment whatsoever. Because it is detectable in the system for months after a single use. Not to mention the human body produces its own cannabinoids naturally. Look up the human endocannabinoid system for details.
It’s really difficult to have an honest conversation around drug use when people who use drugs are stigmatised and discriminated against.
This is utter bull…t.And you would think you could have used something more original than Bob Dylan.Drink is the major cause of death in driving and lets get that right. This seems very much to be part of the anti-marijuana legalistation campaign and is in very poor taste
I suggest you look at the statistics. Drug driving is now the leading cause of accidents and deaths on NZ roads. Police often conflate other causes e.g. road speed as a cause of accidents, it is drugs that are now the largest cause.
Well maybe me and my hubby are the exception…..we think they are bloody good adverts. She has good emotions and really gets our attention. Maybe it’s a generation thing. ‘No speaking’ is different and makes us look up from the screens. I like Ashleigh and her messages. Well done.
Keep this going. Don’t stop until all the stories are told, they need to be said.
Play it more.
It’s very moving, hopefully it will get through and make people think.
Well done on this initiative. Well done!!
Do you not realise that this is made up advertising not real; HULLO
Wake up this is an advert not real but very much anti-drug brainwashing
Brilliant idea. I am always compelled to read every card each time they appear and actually take in the message unlike other ads where my brain automatically shuts them out.
Great advert. Great concept. When I see these ads come on I stop and watch them. Heartbreaking stories.
One of the most effective ads I’ve seen in a long time.Ashleigh portrays the antidrug message with such empathy and compassion .Every time an ad comes on I am transfixed by her messages.
Well done to all involved.
an excellent campaign…makes you stop and watch the whole advert…hope those that need to take it on board.
Everytime this ad comes on I wonder where the money is coming from to get this insane message across. Is there some anti-cannabis group donating to nzta to create hysteria around the referendum? Firstly same girl, same corner, different clothes, faking emotions and flipping cards with “stories” of weed tragedies of someone killing someone, somewhere, while driving on weed. Oh yeah there was alcohol too but weed is the target. No mention if it was consumed the week before or any facts just a poor young girl crying because someone got killed by weed. I agree people should not be impaired while driving but alcohol, meth, mdma and perscription drugs etc are a much bigger impairment than “weed” and should be the main focus to save lives.
Hi these adds are great .everytime I see them I feel for the families behind each story.they make you think.
Ashleigh delivers with real and subliminal power very impressive .since returning to Europe i recall this ad every day .well done to agency too
Disappointed by the polydrug approach. Multiple factors contribute crashes and I would put cellphone use whilst driving right up there. Sadly few individuals would admit to that.
Great ad. Great message…
